Candid and Colorful Family Photography
Your family is growing and changing every single day.
You don't need an excuse for a photo session. No milestones or holidays needed. Just capture the small moments! As a mother of two, I totally understand the craziness that comes with family photos. But I pinky promise we'll have a good time. I take a super light-hearted approach to family photos. I’ll guide you and help you feel comfortable. You’ll spin in circles and make silly faces. You’ll group hug and crazy dance. We’ll get some classic smiling images and all the combos of mom and son, dad and daughter, dad and dad, mom and mom, siblings, and anything else imaginable. But more importantly, we’ll capture the laughs and smiles of your family being who they are.
I'm super excited to meet you, so please say hello!
FAQ
Where should we do our photos?
A lot goes into choosing a location. You have to think about lighting, background, open hours, and how many people will be around.
Luckily for you, I’m a location expert! My local spots are tried and true. I know how the light works and when they tend to be less crowded. If you have suggestions or places your family loves to go, I’d love to hear them!
Keep in mind that some sessions have distance limits, and there may be a fee for locations outside my boundaries.
Of course, if you want to do photos in your home, I’m all for that too. I’m happy to give you advice on how to make your in-home shoot the best it can be.
How do we prepare for our session?
Pick some outfits and pack some bribes! Please arrive early to find parking. Arriving calm is the best way to start a session. Don’t panic if your kids throw tantrums. It happens. We’ll deal with it.
What should we wear for our photos?
I’m currently working on a blog post all about what to wear for your photos, but in the meantime, here are a few handy tips
- Choose a color scheme and choose each outfit based on that theme. Check out my Pinterest board for some great ideas.
- Coordinate colors and styles, but don’t match.
- Avoid logos.
- Think about where and when your shoot will be. Beach photos during the summer = fun patterns, sandals, flowy dresses, bright colors. Woodsy photos during the fall = darker neutrals, solid colors, boots, scarves.
- Keep it casual, or dress it up, but make sure the whole family is doing the same thing.
- Be yourself. Please don’t go out and buy some crazy clothes that you’ll only wear for these photos. You and your family will all be happier wearing something you already love.
- Please remove your smart watch!
When is the best time of day for photos?
For indoor shoots, we can basically meet anytime for your photos. We’ll want to have tons of natural light streaming through the windows.
For outdoor shoots, the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset are the absolute best times to shoot. On a cloudy day, that hour can be extended by two or three hours. The more atmosphere the sunlight has to travel through, the better.
When can we expect our photos back?
I aim for a 2-week turnaround time because I know how excited you are to get your photos!
Editing is a huge part of my craft. And I love editing photos! Because I deliver so many images and look at each one is great detail, this process takes quite a long time. I pinky swear I'm going as fast as humanly possible. (cause, ya know, I have to sleep and feed my kids.)
Do you have any mini sessions planned?
I do mini sessions once or twice a year, but I don’t have any planned at the moment.
If you are interested in a mini session, let me know, and we can figure something out. Generally, I’m willing to set up a date of mini sessions if you can get 3-4 other families for the same date and location.
