Rivka's Birth Story
Tamara and I met our second semester of college, and it was not an instant friendship. A slow burn, but worth every single moment. It has been 14 years with Tamara as my best friend. When I found out she was pregnant (by accidentally glancing at a notification on her phone), I happy danced with her and started begging her to let me take her photos. After being her engagement photographer and doing her wedding portraits, I needed the monopoly! Plus, I wanted to witness her at home birth story.
Finally she came around to the idea. When the day came closer, I started carrying my camera around everywhere I went. I got the call and grabbed my bag from the doorstep of a friend's house. "Brad, the kid is yours! Bye!"
Tamara was well into the zone. Tamara worked through a deep breathing meditation for hours as Rivka got closer and closer to entering the world. Tamara showed incredible strength as she pulled Rivka through the water and into her arms.
Witnessing this birth meant so much to me. It still does. I think about it frequently. Being a birth photographer is the most magical calling I could ever ask for.
